If there was a tagline for the match: “A Good Chase, A Great Win, with a couple of Milestones thrown In!”
After last weeks good performance & win to start the 10th Year of Orange off positively, we turned our attention to our first League Game of the Season, vs Corridors CC at the scenic Battersea Park.
Skipper Daniel Sherman lost the toss and Corridors CC elected to bat first. Instructions from the Skipper in our team talk, was to keep everything simple, to play positively and above all, support each other throughout the day.
We had 2 milestones to celebrate. First was Ali Tyzack receiving his KRCSC cap, second milestone was a tad bigger, with club Stalwart & former captain Matt Small passing the 100 game mark. In honour of that Great Achievement, ‘MediaSmallz’ led the team on to the pitch after a Good lil commemorative speech from Skipper Sherman.
Matt Small & Chris Brown took the new ball, with Brown continuing his good form this season by bowling a good spell, which included the early wicket of Jennings. Score: 9/1.
Corridors CC then consolidated & got a strong partnership of 109 going between Campbell (63) & Mackie (31), which put the Dors in the driving seat at 118/1 with about 15overs to go, & lots of wickets still in hand.
The Road then finally got the breakthrough on 118 when Matt Cocken had Campbell caught behind by Sherman, opening the door for the KRCSC Fightback. The Road then took 3 wickets for just 14runs in the next 5 overs, shared by Cocken (2/40) & Mo Shaboodien (2/42) leaving the Dors 132/5 & Krcsc back in the game.
With Brown, Cocken & Shaboodien having completed their full bowling spells, Captain Sherman turned to the rest of his bowlers. The Corridors batting & the KRCSC bowling were then evenly matched from then on and at the close of the Corridors innings, the Score stood at 219/6 off 35Overs.
Once more this seaon, a fantastic tea was enjoyed by all (Both Teams & spectators/fans alike) at the break. Very well done to All who made the effort!
Matt Cocken & Adam Paterson opened the batting. Their partnership ticked along steadily to 43 off 12overs before Paterson holed out to Mid On for 12 off 32balls.
Chris MacNicol then joined Cocken & they immediately set about putting pressure on the Corridors fielders. 1s turned into 2s, & their Ultra Positive running & rotation of the strike enabled them to get more opportunities to put away bad balls, which they duely did, putting on 50runs in the next 8overs. Excellent Stuff!
Macnicol, who was the aggressor in the partnership, then fell for a well made 28 off 26balls, leaving the Road on 93/2 off 20overs.
James Couldrey, with 10runs from 10balls, kept the momentum going before being caught at cover. Score: 110/3.
With another 110runs needed in the last 11overs, Captain Sherman strode in with some purpose and set about dragging The Road to a winning position. He launched an assault on any & every bowler who was brought on with a stunning cameo.
Meanwhile, “Lancashire HotPot” Cocken had been ticking along at the other end, & finally reached his MAIDEN 50 for The Road. This milestone had eluded him for more than 9 Seasons & 100 games and he looked a relieved man to finally get that monkey off his back. He simultaneously passed on the unwanted “Most Runs in KRCSC History without a 50” tag to Mark Isham.
Cocken eventually fell for a well played 55 off 87balls, and then Sherman soon after. Captain Shermans cameo (42 off 20balls) had dragged his side from 110/3 when he walked in, to 179/5.
KRCSC now needed 41 more runs to Win from just over 5overs. Jamie Keating (20 off 16balls & the less said about his dismissal the better..see most embarrassing moment), Shaboodien (26* off 14balls) & Chris Brown (10 from 2balls) made sure that the Road only needed 4overs to knock off the final 41runs to pull off a Great Chase & take All the Points!
To chase the last 110runs in just over 9overs to win was a awesome effort by All. The Skipper’s innings (42runs off 20balls with 3×4s & 3×6s) set the tone at the end & everyone else followed suit fantastically.
All in All, it was a memorable Day filled with milestones, a debut, tasty teas, a great chase, a good drink after, and most importantly, a win with All the Points!! In my humble opinion, thats how Cricket should be played! Well Done All.

Jamie Keating given Out LBW by Umpire Macnicol when he hit the cover off the ball. All 21 other players, the spectators, Stevie Wonder & Helen Keller could tell that Keating hit the ball, except for the Umpire.
An Epic decision from the 2017 Chairman & Umpire on the Day, which will undoubtedly earn him a Nomination at the Krcsc Awards Dinner in 6months time! Unforgettable!
