CAPTAINS old and new will face-off against each other next month in this year’s Intra-Club Challenge match.
In his first outing as The Road’s new skip, Giles Fagan is set to lead a team to take on last season’s helmsman Matt Cocken on April 17.
The pair will pick sides from players available before the match kicks off on Clapham Common’s all-weather pitch.
So far only ten have put their names down, but The Road will be hoping to get a full turnout of 22 so the game can be 11-a-side.
The match is billed as a warm-up before The Road take on Westway CC in their season opener on May 1 – but no doubt pride will still be at stake.
Asked what kind of challenge he expects to face from Gilo in Clapham, Matt simply said: “What challenge?”
And new man Giles said: “You need all the time in the middle you can get, Cocken!
“You’re going down… oh yeah… down ….. way down …… down …. to China town… yup.”
Last season, former skip Raju Mazumder’s team took on the tinkerman’s replacement Matt and won.
