Our new correspondent Ben writes:
MASSIVE win for the road vs the mighty (and also massive) ‘lopes, despite Moans best efforts to jinx it from the boundary!
Day started off with air of forboding, as Sherman crawled to fortress Dundonald, clearly in the final throws of death. An act of inspiring commitment to the Road. The first 3 batsmen for the Antelopians clearly had never been explained the concept of a defensive shot. Despite some fantastic bowling from Dan and Moany, they threw their arms at absolutely everything, delivering some impressive straight and leg side 6s.
However, their attacking shots finally delivered a soft wicket, a short ball from Moany caught by Mandy, bringing the first dismissal of the day. After a few more attempts from their batsmen to leather the ball out of the park, and a fit of violent rage from Dan, resulting in him “accidentally” beaming his hat at the umpire, he brought the second and third dismissals with help from a catch from Oscar.
After this, Mandy, Chinners and Oscar ruthlessly cut through the middle order including a misplaced leave off Mandy’s 2nd ball, delivering a bumper off the gloves, that was somehow caught behind by Elliott, boldly sacrificing his sunnies in the process. Nimit then finished off the innings with a MASSIVE first wicket for the Road.
The Dans opened the batting for the road. Sherman dragging his life support system with him. Johnson blissfully unaware that, post-game, he would be fed a shrek-coloured ice lolly out of a condom. The pair shut the door on some rapid opening bowling, with Johnson managing to build up a very solid total of 46 before getting out trying to walk himself down the track to 50.
Connor was next in, showing some absolutely rapid pace, threatening to lap his batting partners.
The middle order was a mixed bag, with Chinners and Mandy putting up very solid totals, including a massive six from Mandy, and Chinners hitting all but 4 of his runs to the boundary. Ben and Lax, in contrast, very generously, decided that the match was in the bag, and opted to not give the scorers too much work, leaving Elliott to finish off the innings in style with Mandy to secure the Dub for the Road!
How’d we do today?
After the game, the Road enjoyed some beers in the sun and a professional photoshoot by an Antelope bowler, content to follow.
