SHAM de Silva shined at this year’s end of season bash scooping three gongs as The Road celebrated 2012 with a boozy night at The Selkirk in Tooting.
The Streatham wonder won Best Batsman and Player of the Season for his stunning season at the crease in which he topped the batting averages.
Sham hit 476 runs at 47.60 after scoring his maiden century, 127 not out against the Bloody Lads, and three fifties.
His third award however was less impressive – the Most Embarrassing Moment of the season award for dancing with himself in front of a mirror on the club’s tour to the Isle of Wight.
Teasmaker of the Year went to Amir Alipour for producing a series of outstanding cakes which climaxed in a three-tiered wonder at the Super Test against the Battersea Badgers.
Most Improved went to club stalwart Matt Cocken who upped his game significantly with both bat and ball by taking 12 wickets and scoring 147 runs.
The Best Bowler was Shailesh Joshi, who edged out last year’s winner Matt Glover and fellow opener Matt Small. Shailesh, who’s leaving the club next month to return to India, was by far the highest wicket-taker taking 22 this season.
Fielder of the Season was the captain James Couldrey who prevented a hat-trick of gongs for the previous two season’s winner Matt Small by taking the award he last won in 2008. Matt and James were tied on votes and the eventual result was decided by the number of catches taken.
The Best Newcomer went to Jack Caeser, who was not available to pick up his gong, but the award was accepted by a random punter who stepped into the bar.
Finally, the Champagne Moment of the Year was shared between the 40 over team who beat the Battersea Badgers and the moment Matt Small hit the winning runs off the last ball against the London Itinerants.
