HAVING shrugged off their hoodoo against the Battersea Badgers, celebrated Sham de Silva’s century and won three on the bounce, King’s Road came back down to earth with a bump against Corridor CC in Sheen.
The Orange Caps, playing in their first evening Twenty20 match of the season, fell worryingly flat for the second time this season against their seemingly beatable LPL rivals on Wednesday.
In a hastily-rearranged game at Palewell Common, Sheen, The Road slumped to a disappointing 87 all out to a side that’s quickly replacing the Badgers as their new bogey team.
The miserable total was one fewer than the 87 scored in another weak loss against the same opposition in a 40 over match in May and the worst performance this year.
The Road’s record against Corridor now stands at: played two, won none, never even got over a hundred.
It was another match that was put on after a week’s worth of rain had fallen in the preceding few days but the pitch had remained firm enough and when Corridor skip Duncan Mallard won the toss he chose to bat.
It appeared an even contest up until the break with The Road restricting the Dors to 119 to set themselves a run ball to target to win.
The bowler of the day was undoubtedly Jamie Keating, who took 3 for 23 off 4, including a wicket first ball, and then Shailesh Joshi, who took 2 for 19.
There was also a wicket apiece for captain James Couldrey and Leon Watson.
However, the reply simply never got off the ground. First, the normally-reliable Tom Barnes – playing in his first match this season – fell and then top middle and bottom order followed as King’s Road scraped their way a pitiful score.
Only Andy Saker and Matt Glover emerged with any credit being the only batsmen to get into double figures as the others submitted weakly.
It was a sluggish start to The Road’s Twenty20 season, and another embarrassing display against the Dors.
