BAD weather is threatening to wash out The Road’s long-awaited season opener after council bosses tried to CANCEL the club’s pitch booking.
Wandsworth council told King’s Road chairman Matt Cocken on Thursday the game was off because forecasters have predicted heavy rain.
The club has insisted the game against Fame CC will still go-ahead unless an announcement is made otherwise – but is in the balance.
If the weather doesn’t improve King’s Road will have no option but to shelve it.
Chairman Matt Cocken said: “We don’t know what’s happening at the moment so we’ll have to wait and see.
“But rest assured, players will be informed as soon as we get an update. We’re not going to let this dampen our spirits.”
WHAT A BALLS UP
MARYLEBONE Ball-cutters chief Jonathan McClory has shelved a vital pre-season net session – to sit on the sofa watching FOOTIE.
The stand-in skip sent out a notice to his players this week calling on them to attend a much-needed practise session at Regents Park on May 15.
But after realising it there’s a crunch Champions League match that evening he cancelled it – a decision which could leave his team dangerously short of match practise.
A spokesman for rival team King’s Road said: “Lets face it, the Ball-cutters need all the practise they can get.”
