GOLDEN oldie Giles Fagan has been crowned the new King of The Road after winning a one-on-one face-off with Kevin Pittaway.
The recently betrothed old timer finally secured his title after the competition was postponed two months ago because of an horrific injury.
John Gledhill was hit in the face as he kept wicket in bad light and the contest had to be be abandoned for the night.
Kev had knocked out defending champ Leon Watson in the semis and Gilo had dispatched the dangerous Shailesh Joshi en route to the final.
But Gilo had to wait until The Road’s defeat against South West Herts XI last week to claim the title at London Colney in Hertfordshire.
The wickie – just a week after he returned from his honeymoon – blasted Kevย off the park after the Bank Holiday Monday match had finished.
Last year Kev was memorably knocked out by Chris Beckett and Giles fell at the semi final stage.
Face it Gilo, you're old – and you're gold. Hence the "Goldie Oldie"!
I've just realised the headline I should have used:
FAGAN NICKED IT
Why didn't I think of that before???
That's the one – Got to pick a pocket or 2!
