CAPTAIN Giles Fagan became the first Orange Cap to top 1,000 runs as The Road swooped to a decisive win against Hawksmoor CC yesterday.
The club’s highest run-scorer passed the landmark on his way to 24 off 17 balls as the boys from Battersea racked up a massive 215 at Hackney Marshes.
But it was Sham De Silva and Dan Sherman who hit the bulk of the runs to put The Road on the road to victory.
Opener Sham batted through 40 overs to stroke his maiden half-century and finish on 59 not out on Hackney Marshes.
And Dan S, batting at five, clobbered a career-best 71 off just 41 balls to push the total past 200.
It left Hawksmoor needing a mammoth 216 to win – a big ask against The Road’s attack.
James Couldrey, back leading the line, was the star with the ball recording miserly figures of 2 for 16 off 8.
Shailesh Joshi and last season’s leading wicket-taker also bagged a brace each.
Opener Matt Small, Amir Alipour and Dan S mopped up the other wickets as The Road won by a massive 93 runs.
