Having just marked 100 games as a club, you’d think by now King’s Road might look at least a little bit like a cricket team.

But no. Instead the boys from Battersea must have appeared like a bunch of complete novices last night as they got humiliated in an evening Twenty20 after work.

After being bowled out for 74 at the weekend, the Orange Caps were even worse this time, posting a miserable and utterly shameful 41 against LPL rivals Cairns Fudge.

Not a great start to the Twenty20 season – and it doesn’t exactly bode well for the next league match between the sides in August.

Going in to bat first at the Wood Bowl in Barnes, the Orange Caps simply capitulated.

Wayward shots on an uneven pitch led to a series of ducks and single figure scores as batsman after batsman, including three in one over, were dismissed.

The Fudge couldn’t believe their eyes, it was like Christmas had come early.

King’s Road slumped to an all-time low in Twenty20 games and narrowly avoided beating the club record low in all forms of cricket.

That score was a dreadful 40, set against Warwick Castle back in the early days of 2008.

In reply Matt Glover took one wicket – the only one to fall – before the Fudge knocked off the runs with ease.

That single wicket was the only positive to come out of this fixture.

The game, which no doubt King’s Road would rather forget, finished in just a handful of overs before any problems with light could possibly emerge.

There was even time for a six over-a-side knockabout, which The Road salvaged a tiny amount of pointless pride from.

There’s no disguising how dreadful that performance was – but captain Matt Cocken will be left scratching his head and thinking that sometimes, you’ve just got to laugh at how bad The Road are.
