ANOTHER major media outlet has shown its love for the King’s Road Cricket and Social Club today.
Following in the footsteps of cricket website Cricinfo, cricket magazine All Out Cricket and local newspaper the South London Press, the BBC has now name-checked The Road.
In its County Championship text commentary, the Beeb’s Steve Marshall quoted team hack Leon Watson in his round-up.
Leon was keeping tabs on the Division 1 relegation dogfight between Kent and Hampshire to help write radio news bulletins for the station he works for.
And, when a spare moment arose the all-rounder fired off an e-mail to the BBC’s cricket reporter to get a mention.
It said: “The mighty Kingโs Road Cricket & Social Club will be out for the last time in 2010 tomorrow facing the Harris XI.
“With a terrible two wins in 18 matches this year, The Road will be hoping to get back on track win an end of season win. Hereโs hoping!
“Myself, Iโm on a barren run โ something like 150 runs all season. Not good.”
King’s Road take on the Harris XI – an invitational side who stepped in at the last moment to replace Not The MCC – tomorrow.
The match will take place at King George’s Playing Fields in Morden and will be Jamie Keating’s first as captain.
