THESE are the horrific injuries that have left two King’s Roaders facing a race against time to be fit for our season opener.
Streatham-based slogger David Hughes suffered a finger injury during the Intra-Club Challenge on Sunday.
And paceman Adam Majeed has finally revealed photo evidence of the extent of the crippling broken foot that has kept him out of pre-season training.
He said: “This was taken in a hotel bathroom in Warsaw a week ago, so three weeks into the injury. I wish I’d got a picture a day or two into the injury.
“But you can see it’s still pretty swollen. I’ve been hobbling around London, Warsaw and Belgrade… vulnerable and alone.”
Dave, the fat-fingered Welshman, had his right ring digit badly bruised as he tried to snare a sharp return catch in the closing stages of last weekend’s game.
In form batsman Andy Saker, playing for skipper Giles Fagan’sย victorious team, struck a firmly hit drive straight atย Hughes, who succeeded only in blocking it with the damaged digit.
After the game the finger swelled up and turned an ugly – and worrying – shade of purple.
Hughes said: “It’s agony. I can’t move the finger very easily and it won’t properly straighten.
“Hopefully it’s just badly bruised and I’ll be ready for the opening game. But if things don’t improve soon I might have to get it checked out by medics in case it’s broken.
“Ifย there is a breakย then I might be out for the first half of the season. That would be gutting because I felt in great form during my time in the middle on Sunday.”
Pace ace Kevin Pittaway is another Orange Cap battling to be fit for the start of the season on May 1 against Westway CC after having his pre-season ruined by injury. However details of his condition are not known.
