Ferocious King’s Road savaged Five Lions CC by 184 runs in Barnes to record the biggest win in the club’s history.
In a hastily-rearranged fixture, the Orange Caps started slowly before in-form Jack Caesar went wild with the bat smashing 90 not out.
Yet again Jack had come within a whisker of scoring his first century for the club before running out of time.
Paceman Matt Small then roared in to take the lion’s share of the wickets as the newly-formed side were dismissed for a paltry 21.
It was the lowest total King’s Road have ever bowled a side out for in a 35 over match – definitely one for the end-of-season almanack.
The day started with stand-in captain Mark Isham losing the toss and seeing his side put into bat on a gloriously sunny day at Barn Elms Recreation Ground in Barnes.
Mark and Dan Sherman put on a slow but steady opening partnership that saw on just 27 after 10 overs, but in no danger of losing a wicket.
The stand, played out on a dicey pitch with an outfield as grassy as an African plain, lasted until the 20th over when Dan fell for 17.
The score was on just 75 with only 15 overs to go.
But then Jack strode to the crease, looking hungry for runs and ready to hunt down his prey.
While Mark, whose best score for The Road was 47, continued to hold the fort at one end, Jack went on safari cubbing five sixes to send the run-rate soaring.
In no time The Road were purring despite the loss of Mark, who fell agonisingly short of a fifty yet again, for 45.
At the interval, The Road – thanks mainly to Jack – had posted an imposing total of 205 with Amir Alipour finishing on 3 not out.
After that, it didn’t take long for Smally to sink his teeth into the Lions.
The diminutive paceman put in a performance that would stir the lions of any cricket fan as he finished with career-best figures of 5 for 4.
In his first over Smally went Big Game hunting to claim three wickets – two bowled and one lbw.
The ball simply couldn’t Mufasa as The Road’s opener bowled a terrific lion and length.
With wickets falling like flies it didn’t take long for the Lions to be left extinct after clawing their way to just 21.
The Lions who could resist were rare – with only the East Enders’ captain Jude managing to keep The Road’s pack of bowlers at bay in Barnes.
But at the end of the day Jude’s toothless Lions were made to look like pussycats as King’s Road & Social Club proved they were top of the food chain.
We hope the Lions’ pride wasn’t hurt.
