A stunning bowling performance by India’s Number 1 Shailesh Joshi ensured a comfortable win for King’s Road in their latest T20 outing.
The sub-continental pace ace took 3 for 7 off his four over opening spell and held a catch off his new ball partner Matt Glover to ensure he had a hand in removing four of the London Itinerants’ batsmen.
A fine catch from Jamie Keating gave Joshi his final wicket, when after five dot balls the batsman felt forced into a rash shot but could only send it into the safe paws of The Bear.
At the other end stand-in skipper Glover was struggling for control but managed to see off the dangerous opener Dixon, who took on a short-pitched delivery only to pick out Joshi in the field, to finish with 1 for 33.
Keats’ crafty spinners also saw him take two wickets in an over, finishing with 2 for 4 and there were also wickets for Dan Howard (2 for 10), Michael Rossi (1 for 2) and David Hughes (1 for 5) as the Ities were bowled out for 61 off 11.4 overs.
The Road’s run chase got off to a solid start, with Jon Malsingh and Jack Caesar putting on 48 until Jon had to retire after reaching 25.
After Jack was out for 15, wicketkeeper Elliot Small departed for a duck, but David Hughes and Paul Shackleton brought the Road to within one shot of victory.
Going for glory, Hughes edged to the keeper to depart for 1 and Shackleton soon followed for 7.
With just two required for the win three wickets fell in what was to become the final over, but Rossi capped his return to the stage with the winning runs, bringing victory for the Road by five wickets with 7 overs to spare.
