ENGLAND’S main man Andrew Strauss has PERSONALLY wished King’s Road “all the best” for new season.
The national team’s captain took time out from his build up to the up-coming series against the West Indies to sign a snap of himself just for us.
It said: “To King’s Road C[S]C, good luck for the season! Best wishes, Andrew Strauss.”
The Road got Strauss’s backing after all-rounder Leon Watson used his contacts at The Sun newspaper to get to him on board.
Leon said: “I don’t want to read too much into what Straussy’s saying, but… clearly he’s wishing us all the best and good luck, which means he wants us to win.
“And if he wants us to win he wants all the other teams we play – especially the Battersea Badgers – to lose. Right?
“So therefore, he must be a fan. It’s almost like he’s sticking two fingers up to the Badgers and saying, ‘I’m the most important person in English cricket and I support King’s Road, not you’.”
Leon revealed Strauss was just one of a number of celebrity names desperate to put their support behind the Orange Caps – but the England opener was chosen because he was the most high-profile.
“We thought about accepting Barack Obama, but he only wanted to support to get the good publicity. He’s not really a cricket fan so we said no.
“Susan Boyle – the big one from Britain’s Got Talent – was also interested but we thought she wasn’t a good advert for the game.”
