ORANGE Caps cruised to their second successive victory after a magic bowling performance from Adam Majeed and a batting masterclass from Giles Fagan.
Beershire were left flat at Wimbeldon’s Haydon’s Road when King’s Road legend Fagan showed he was the boss as he scored 79.
Fagan left early to watch Bruce Springsteen rocking Hyde Park and Majeed bagged the Road’s first ever five-wicket haul.
The Golden Oldie opened with David Hughes, the pair put on 25 before the Welshman, who had been batting like a cautious man, suddenly played a rash shot which saw him caught at mid on.
The other man at the top of the order was John Gledhill who soon departed, trapped lbw to a ramrod straight delivery.
Leon Watson was next in and showed he had a good eye, stroking his way to 17 off just 14 balls before being beaten by a brilliant inswinger from Matthew Small.
Debutant Tom Barnes was next to the middle and the hitter smashed 21, including four boundaries, before becoming one of Vidal’s six victims.
Amir Alipour-Mehraban was caught by King’s Road traitor Jamie Smith for one and the pint-sized turncoat later held a tough chance to dispatch Fagan.
Before he departed, another treacherous King’s Roader had already damaged Fagan’s chance of reaching a ton – Jamie “Judas” Keating managing to injure his erstwhile teamate by bowling at his knee.
This brought Orange Caps’ skipper Raju Mazumder to the crease and he showed he was born to run as he scampered the singles for the crippled batsman.
Local hero Kevin Pittaway and teacher Simon Biffen then taught the Beershire bowlers a few lessons, putting on 28 before Biffen fell to Vidal.
The Skip then came back as a batsman but he was not a lucky man, departing for 0.
Majeed and Pittaway added 10, taking the Road past 200, before Pittaway was caught by Judas Keating for 43.
A late cameo from James Couldrey, who hit three successive fours, helped take King’s Road to an impressive total of 235.
But there was to be no surrender from Beershire, who stuck to their task despite losing regular wickets.
Jamie “Smudger” Smith opened, but became the first of Majeed’s victims, clean bowled for four. Couldrey also chipped in with two wickets at the top of the order.
Keating, who had fallen into the corned beef pie trap laid for him by Hughes at the tea interval, was sluggish but still managed to bash his way to 16.
He was then casually caught by Pittaway – gaining revenge for his earlier dismissal – off the bowling of Biffen.
The skipper was also on fire, putting brilliant disguise on the ball to take two wickets before Majeed polished off the tail, leaving Beershire all out for 162, the Orange Caps wrapping up the win with eight overs to spare.
It was the latest in a series of glory days for King’s Road who next face the Full Tossers on July 4.

Two in a row – sweeeeet.
It depends…Am I right in thinking that “Five-Wicket Haul” is a Springsteen B-side?
Great game Welshman – i can count 6. Any more?
If we work out how many, will we get a Brucie Bonus?
Not even close, Giles.
shit! did he write a song called “Majeed polished off the tail”? or “Stroking his way to 17” sounds like one of his!
I know – “The corned beef pie trap” – that rocks!
Right – i notice that i’m the only one playing this game – but i reckon i’ve got 11 songs, plus 2 near ones “On fire” (actually I’m on Fire) and reference to “The Boss”
Right, Boyo, do i get a pie for a prize yet or are there more?
Do you want me to name them?
Gilo, still missing one – although, to be fair, it’s a cover version.
Put me out of my misery David.
Cautious Man, Trapped, Ramrod, Good Eye, The Hitter, Born to Raju, Local Hero, Lucky Man, No Surrender, Brilliant Disguise and Glory Days. Possibly ” I’m on Fire”.
