KING’S Road were on the wrong end of a thrashing yet again as the London Itinerants battered them by more than 100 runs.
Paul Dixon was the man of the match hitting 56 in 48 balls before snaffling 5 for 16 in 5 overs to set up a comfortable win in the latest LPL match.
On a day when showers were forecast to interrupt proceedings, Ities skip Michael Behl won the toss and put his side in to bat at the Wood Bowl in Barnes.
But while rain didn’t strike, The Road did as paceman Matt Glover got the early wicket to remove opener Jon Tennison lbw for a duck. After that though it was one-way traffic as the home side piled on the runs.
Behl blasted 37 in 37 balls and Adam Ainsworth 15 off 19 as the Ities kept the scoreboard ticking over at a fair pace for a 35-over match.
Behl was eventually removed by Dan Howard, taking his first wicket since his return from China, who had the big Aussie caught behind by Dan Sherman off a thin edge.
Ainsworth also fell to Matt G, but the runs kept coming as Dixon and Neil Davis both scored at more than a run a ball.
It took two strikes from India’s number one Shailesh Joshi in his second spell to stop the rot as Dixon fell lbw for 56 off 48 balls and Davis was caught behind two short of a half century off a similarly impressive 44 balls.
Road skip James Couldrey had Simon Harrington lbw for the second duck of the day and Amir Alipour had Adam Quigley for the third but it was not enough.
A final stand at the end between Hamish Crawford, who hit 25 not out, and Christopher Long, who finished on 9, rubbed salt into the wounds.
The wickets were expensive but Shailesh was the pick returning 2 for 30 off 7, Matt G also bagged 2 for 38 off his 7.
The Road had failed to restrict the Ities to a reasonable total and now faced a mammoth 220 in 35 overs.
Raju Mazumder and Matt Glover looked solid after tea before both openers fell as Dixon found his line. Raju was bowled for 7 and soon after Matt was also bowled for 29.
That brought Mark Isham to the crease and then Leon Watson, and when Mark fell for 8, also bowled by Dixon, The Road fell apart.
Wickie Dan S went for 4, and Jamie Keating for a duck as Dixon ripped out the middle order shortly after ripping out the top order.
It left The Road reeling and when Shailesh was caught by the skipper off Ainsworth all hope ended.
Leon shut up shop and blocked out the rest of the innings as number eight Michael Rossi departed for another duck.
Joined by Dan H, Leon dug in and the two not out batsmen ensured The Road passed 100 to pick up a bonus point and weren’t bowled out. But it was small comfort.
Leon finished on 13 not out and Dan H on an unbeaten 8 while The Road lost by 105 runs.
King’s Road had been comprehensively thrashed as the Ities picked up a much-needed 9 points for the win while the Orange Caps had to console themselves with 2.
The Road’s final LPL game is on August 19 against top of the table Cairns Fudge.
