Coming on the back of a great T20 win in their last outing, King’s Road were humbled in their 40-over match against Kew CC.
The match got off to a bad start when the opposition requested Kings Road’s Matt Glover be taken off the bowling due to the number of unintentional beamers he bowled at their batsmen in his first three overs.
Kew’s opening batsman Stukins then got stuck in to the rest of bowling attack. He rode his luck by surviving two dropped catches before finally being caught by Glover off Caesar for 88.
A brilliant catch by Dean Aldridge to remove Sherlock for 15 off the bowling of skipper Matt Cocken temporarily lifted The Road’s spirits until it was apparent he’d damaged his finger in the process.
He rushed off to the nearest A&E and returned later with the news that he’d fractured it. It was a huge blow to the Road’s batting line-up.
Not even the catch of the day โ if not the season โ by Jack Caesar to dismiss Thomas for 5 could rally The Road and Kew went on to make 254 off their allotted overs.
In response, The Road’s innings got off to a slow start and it wasn’t long before Raju was out lbw for 4.
There then followed a mini-collapse with Glover lbw for 0, Sham De Silva run out for 5 and Chris MacNicol bowled for 4.
Only Cocken, 19, and Caesar, 43, made any sort of inroads before another mini-collapse at the end of the innings saw Jamie Keating lbw for 7, Michael Rossi caught for 6, and James Couldrey bowled for 7, with Matt Small not out on 5. The Road were all out for 121, to lose by 133 runs.
Still, at least the rain held off…
One response to “Would Kew believe it? King’s Road humbled again as Glover is banned from bowling and Aldridge injures a finger”
To be fair to Matt the “number of unintentional beamers” bowled in the first 3 overs was actually 1, and the oppo were a bit harsh in my opinion. And Jack’s “catch of the day – if not the season”??? That was the best catch by anyone, ever! Awesome performance from Jack all round, shame the rest of us didn’t really back him up.
