MADCAP Raju Mazumder is gunning for the Christmas number one next year with his new band RAJ Against the Machine.

The foul-mouthed finger-spinner says he’s launched an internet campaign to get a cricket song to the top in 2010.

Raju penned his tune – Spinning In The Name – to break the dominance of non cricket-related songs in the charts at Christmas.

And he reckons the song’s got enough X Factor to do it.

Raju’s release comes after namesake band Rage Against the Machine hit the top spot on Sunday.

Captain Raju revealed: “That Rage song’s about politics or whateva. It’s got nothing to do with cricket.”

So instead of writing a song about love or politics, the King’s Road captain’s rant boasts the angry refrain: “F*** you, I won’t bowl where you tell me!”

Raju, who plays bass guitar, said: “Spinning In The Name is an anthem of rebellion and of liberation on the cricket field.

“It should be an honour for people to be able to pick it to end the status quo on non cricket-related songs being the Christmas number one.

“This campaign has nothing to do with people who like non cricket songs personally, who I’m sure are very nice.

“It is about breaking the stranglehold these insipid ballads have had on the UK and this idea of a guaranteed No1 pop single as a prize on a TV show.”

He vowed: “They’ll be taught a lesson they’ll never forget.”

Raj Against The Machine fuse heavy rock and rap with acutely cricket lyrics and will release Spinning In The Name for download only next December.

If it did make number one it would be hailed as a seismic cultural shift and a victory for cricket-lovers around the world.

Other cricket songs that have stormed the charts include The Compton Cricket Club’s hit Bullets, Roots Manuva’s Again & Again, 10cc’s Dreadlock Holiday from September 1978 and N-N-Nineteen Not Out by The Commentators.

This is also not the first time the bowling bassist has hit the headlines at Christmas.

Last year the skip dressed up in his whites to give the Orange Caps a special Christmas message from the King’s Road in Chelsea.
